hi ,

anyone had this problem , completely wrecked top end on a cast iron 175. caused by a smashed little end bearing , the engine mileage maybe 5/600 miles , no real noticable noice untill i changed from 4th to 3rd at maybe 50 mph , thought a ring had gone , then locked up .luckily at a stand still.

Couple of options really that would cause small end failure

Lubrication failure - what oil and what % were you using?
Poor quality bearing
Failure to fit piston shims if crank not shimmed
Damage to gudgeon pin / small end eye on crank
