Cylinder Packing Plate

I'm having an engine rebuilt at the moment. It's going to be using a 60 / 110 crank and a Casa 185 kit. Apparently I need a 5mm packing plate for the base of the cylinder. But they don't seem that common. Has anybody any idea where I might find one?

Try Keith at K2 customs, MB or Torbay Lambretta.

5mm? Why? To keep port timings as close to original design as possible you would use 2mm on base and +2mm at the head.

I'd have said 3mm base and 2mm head but he obviously knows what he needs.

Well, I wouldn't go quite that far. It's all a bit of a black art to me. But I have my instructions. As a previous poster said, it's going to be an approximation of the original timing. Which is pretty much what I was after. And, as someone else suggested I did manage to get one from Lee at Lambretta Upgrades. So thanks for that.

Yes, that's why I was asking, without intending to patronize. We all have varying knowledge and experience.

If you're looking for similar timings to standard then a 5mm packer is not really what you want with a 60/110 crank. Unless the casing face has been cut back possibly.

However, I was wrong earlier when I said 2mm; that will reduce exhaust timings. Scooterdude is correct with 3mm. Top one is another matter really as it depends on the head machining and target squish. But generally you'd need 1mm more than with a standard crank.

5mm could give quite a peaky ride potentially.

No, that's great Dickie. All advice like that is gratefully received. I'll ask about that when I see my mate. Generally I can grasp the basic principles of it, but when it comes to fine tuning...
