Got a series 3 LI 125.
I am starting to gather the pieces together for the engine rebuild...I need the following and would like to know what to buy to achieve my aim of reliability and enough poke to be able to cruise comfortably at 55 mph.
Using tge existing gearbox..
Crank, barrel and piston (185?),electronic flywheel and kit, carb and exhaust and a new clutch...any suggestions gents?
Thanks in advance.....

Thanks ...so would a 25mm carb suffice ?Was thinking along the lines of whose products are worth looking at....

A basic but sensible upgrade would be a quality crank with new bearings and seals. A mugello or rt195 plus a clubman exhaust and the 25mm carb, thick end off a £ 1000 including gaskets and few other bits and bobs. Or stick with what you have and the 25 mm carb and clubman, should give you a bit more

I should have said I bought the scoot in bits....the piston apparently had seized, crank screwed carb in bits etc.Hence the need to buy new parts...was looking today at what is out there and almost had heart failure at some of the prices being asked for engine parts.
Surely there must be some middle ground without stumping up for a £500 plus Mugello?
My belief was I could get a kit , crank ,carb exhaust and electronic ignition system for around 1k?
I had set this figure as a budget...didn't seem unrealistic

I have just built an RT195 for a mate... for all the required upgrades was £1300 in parts alone... and that was shopping around and buying sensibly. Not cheap these days to build a reliable engine

This is my plan for my next engine build which I intend to be a usable budget small block.

Asso 175 piston
Stage 3 tune (round town and wee rides around)
25phbl carb
Scootopia clubman
One of those cheap (120 ish quid) black web gp cranks
Bgm stator
Elemec light flywheel
New standard clutch.

Comes in well under £1000 but depends largely on small parts you need to replace which can really add up.

Dickie. Dump the 25mm carb and clubman exhaust. Go for a 20mm and standard exhaust. Perfect set up. And what you lose in power will be negligiable.

I like the sound of that, but I've got spares under the bench so it's be daft not to use them.

However, from the tests in scootering recently you can see that a standard pipe made the most power up to 5000rpm so I might sell the clubman and look for standard. Sign of getting old?

In the grand scheme of things it looks like the RT 95 kit is comparably reasonable money.....what crank would you recommend and would a new standard clutch be up to the task?
Thanks again gents

It depends how much you want to spend but as you aren't looking to build a high performance motor, you won't need a high performance crank or clutch.

Personally I'd go for a standard new clutch with mb springs (I did quite a bit of testing on clutch springs earlier this year and these gave the best force versus lever pull). I'd also go for one of the 'black web cranks' that you can find at most dealers for under £150. If you're feeling flush a granturismo 60/110 crank looks good value and quality and will give you a bit more torque for more like £250.

I used one of these in my RT195 with no issues... They used to be branded as Meceur but seem to have been rebranded as Tameni

A Gori sport 200 kit is £315
and a Gori 175 is £262 from one dealer
Scootopia clubman
Scootopia 22mm carb & manifold
Mec crank
Indian ignition?
These are what I would look at for
that sort of engine.
