Crank install tool

Postby Freight10 » Sun Feb 07, 2021 7:50 pm

Hi all, just brought this tool, it came with an extra bolt which for the life of me I can't work out what it's for.
There is a hole in the side of the tool.and it screws in snug, but doesn't seem to have any purpose...

Any ideas?

This tool would appear to be basically the same as using the standard bolt & splined sleeve that is the usual way of pulling in a crankshaft. Incidentally, the sprocket etc needs torquing up prior to checking crankshaft clearance & chain alignment (in the case of varying oil thrower washer thicknesses being available) so I personally think it best to pull in utilising the whole cush drive assembly. Perhaps I've been building engines for too many years.....

Presumably the side bolt is means of 'torque resistance' for holding the tool still rather than using a ratchet & spanner as depicted in the video here:

If that is the use of that bolt it's a crude addition to such a well made and finished tool!

Thanks for the response gents, WT I thought that at first re torque resistance.. so I screwed it in fully and it didn't provide any real resistance , the long bolt still turned albeit a little tighter.. I'm obviously missing something, but from my perspective it can stay in the box and the tool will be used as designed in the video..

Thanks again both.

This is a guess as I have never seen one :D

If you take the chrome metal part off, and if the blue part would go over the drive sleeve, perhaps you could use it to remove a stuck drive sleeve. Maybe, perhaps :P

I could be totally wrong and I am not really Lambretta experienced but I think I read something about a dual purpose tool that also worked on the layshaft. Probably just my hazy memory.
