SX200 History

Postby ARRANC1967 » Tue Nov 25, 2025 11:33 pm

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help?

I bought an SX200 around 20 years ago. I found the scooter in Bali when on holiday. I had it shipped back and when I got it back with it's Indonesian documents, realised that it was originally sold in England and exported to Jakarta a couple of years later by its owner. I'd like to find out more about it's origins (original number plate / dealership / town etc.) Am I asking in the right place or should i be contacting DVLA?

An interesting thing about this bike is that it has a blue and gold rear frame badge, which none of my club members have ever seen before? Anyone with any info here as well would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks //Arran

Hi Arran, welcome to the forum. The DVLA are not as helpful as they used to be with the history of vehicles anymore although you can still try. I don't think anyone can help much with just a frame number although you never know. I think there are apps available now that might have to be paid for but can give you some info, used a friends one to see if my framed number was registered. Good luck .

Thanks Nick, I've emailed DVLA, so hoping that they can provide some help. Cheers

Do you have any paperwork to indicate that it was originally registered in the UK? If so, that may be useful.

DVLA started computerising their records in the 1970s and finished it in 1983. I am no expert but I suspect that, without an old registration number, you would be reliant on the original selling dealer getting the frame number registered with the registration number at their local DVLC. In my experience, that appears rare. Even then, I don’t know whether the DVLA recorded all frame numbers on their new computer in 1983 :?

I have tried to keep the original registration of three scooters where I have had the old registration number but none of them had the frame number recorded.

It’s definitely worth asking the question though but having the old registration number opens up being able to at least contact an archive who may still have the original handwritten ledgers.

The rear badge for an Sx200 should be, as I am sure you know, white with “Lambretta Innocenti” in black. The only coloured badges I have ever seen have been on Vietnamese restorations. Are you able to post a picture of it, Arran?

Thanks for the info on the registration question.

Here's a pic of the rear frame badge. The production quality looks too good to be Vietnamese, but I guess it could be???

Cheers

The Indonesians themselves produce lots of customised and tuned Vespas so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that it was made there. I’ll stick my neck out and say that it’s not Italian
