Which Rear Hub

Postby psychsteff » Tue Mar 17, 2015 5:24 pm

I need a new rear hub but unsure which to get. Last time I had to buy one there were a few dodgy remade hubs about. I've been looking about and the ones I've seen vary in price and I take It quality!
Should I be looking at Italian remade F.A or Ramp. There are MB ones and also Scooter restorations do a SIL one. Which one is going to be good quality at a reasonable price

I understand that Scootpia were selling their new "safe" hub at Wicksteed. This is based on the much respected Spanish hub.

They sold out at Wicksteed. Perhaps there was for a good reason for this.

They do look very well made - I also like the SIL ones that Scooter Restos had made :D

Just waiting on a delivery of the Tino Sacchi safe hub, heard great reports from folks using them.

In sure they'll be great to. Post some pics when you get it Sue.

All I can say about the scootopia is the casting quality is great. Ready for paint /powder. A good weight to it as well. It feels quality , time will tell.

Scootopia looks quality.
I'm using a UNI one and I'm happy with it.
One early FA left, one original S3 right.

Interesting, I'd never compared a remade to an original hub before, certainly looks like there's more meat around the hub studs on the original, though to be fair ive never heard of a hub cracking at the studs so not really an issue.

The difference in the comparison photo is not because one is original and the other one not, rather it is because one is early design and the other later. Original SX and GP era hubs have the smaller area around the stud. You should note that the extra area around the stud on earlier hubs can stop certain aftermarket rims from fitting or seating correctly as they were designed to fit with the later smaller stud area.

I use the Tino Safe hub and have also the scootopia one, they are both very similar and possibly from the same mould?, there is a big difference in price though.

I think it is Indian, full story here
http://scooterforums476.yuku.com/topic/ ... la-rebuild

Adam is correct,
don't confuse the early FA with the original early S3.
I mentioned the early FA because they are better made than the later FA,
one way to tell them apart,is the package :)

Unfortunately, I couldn't find an original late S3,but I found a Spanish one (bottom left) and a very used and vandalized original late S1/S2 (top right).
I believe that Tino's and Scootopia's rear hubs are a mix of Spanish and S2.
You can see all the different original rear hubs in Sticky's second edition, page 208

Original S2 hubs have two holes and use an unique workshop tool numbered 59826

this looks like the "safe" hub i bought from CamLam last year which is apparently made from an original Innocenti mould or is this something different?

Hi peejay , as Scotty said it's probably from the same mould. Early series 3 or Spanish.
