22 carb hose with breather?

Postby Andie » Wed Oct 21, 2015 2:57 pm

Hello - I am replacing my air filter to carb hose as I'm fitting a 22mm Jetex - is there a hose available that has the breather valve - like my 18mm S3 hose which just won't stretch :)
all i can find is the single piece GP style hose.

Thanks - Andrew

They didn't make a GP 22mm hose with a valve,I dont know if you can buy an after market one.

I'm not sure how effective those drain pipes could have been anyway.

Thanks. Would I be right in thinking most folks just fit a GP style rubber hose on then? That's if they still use the filter box and don't just wang a stand-alone filter on (which would be overkill on my Gori replica 175 TV conversion barrel tbh). I guess they were there for spit-back, possibly a bit of over-engineering? I'm all for simplicity.

I have 2 scooters running 22mm jetex carbs with standard GP hoses through the airbox and they run just fine.

I've seen a workaround using an old cable adjuster, you cut off the bit where the cable ferrule would fit so you're just left with the a flat plate and you use the lock nut to secure it to the rubber.

I've never been able to find a supplier of these. I believe the very early GPs had them fitted and some early GP fan cowls include a bracket to secure the drain pipe - mine does but it wasn't supplied with a drain valve type hose.

I get a bit of spit-back in the hose elbow and I've always suspected this to be the cause of occasional poor hot starting.

Here's a picture of one in the Innocenti GP150 owner's manual:

^^ I always wondered what that bracket was on my flywheel cowling

I suppose the truth of the matter is that it made things cheaper and easier to manufacture. The GP was probably designed as a cost saving exercise.

Rimini Lambretta had NOS of these a while back.

The common sealed type are fine and don't cause issue.

Thanks Hullygully.
I am quite excited about the Gori replica 175 kit (S3 125 gearbox with a 17t front sprocket).
The engine's being rebuilt now; should be fine for quotidien usage.

A few people have suggested ways of fitting a 'leak pipe' to a standard 22mm air hose; but then it wouldn't have a one way valve and air would by-pass the filter.

I will get a sealed air hose and see how she goes.

be carefull with the Gori kit, my 200cc road tune barrels exhaust port was like a jap eye  but more importantly the length of the barrel was 1mm shorter than a standard one :o , I ended up using a couple of RB20 head gaskets to get the correct squish after several head loosening experiences  , but this year she's done the Derby150 & 4 Nations, a good kit with after market tuning, GT scallopped out head & Wossner piston. 8-)

Try Beedspeed, they supplied me with an old style series 2 hose with bottom drain pipe suitable for a 25ml Dellorto just a few weeks ago.

Thank you - I called them but they didn't have anything suitable.
