Ideally you'd need to do plug checks at 4 settings minimum, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full throttle. Stick a bit of masking tape on your switch housing and wrap some masking tape around the throttle grip adjacent to the bit on the switch housing. Put a mark on the switch housing and a mark on the throttle grip with throttle off, then turn throttle to wide open and put a mark for full throttle, from there it's easy to work out the marking for 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 settings. The idea of a plug check is to be able to take a [virtual] photograph of the plug at an exact point in time. You need to ride at set throttle position for at least 1/2 mile and to get your virtual photograph you need to switch off the ignition [or hit the kill switch] and immediately pull in the throttle and coast to a halt [don't pull in clutch before switching off engine or revs will rise]. Ideally find somewhere with lay-byes that you can coast into. Then remove plug and check colour, worth doing it a few times at each setting to be certain you've given it enough time to build up plug colour. Doing a few checks at each throttle position might take a couple of hours but that's time well spent if it saves you a holed piston down the line.
Can't praise this tool highly enough, when used with a 13mm ratchet spanner, to make removing spark plug quick and easy and saving you getting burnt fingers.
