:D It was really interesting to me when Andie original posted his question because his and my set up are so similar .
I managed to get out today Buzzsolomoto had an open day so I took a ride over but on route I tried johnnyXS tip about the choke at WOT under load and feel " well chuffed" as the result was - the engine bogged ever so slightly for a split second as I started to apply the choke but there was no noticeable difference after that . JohnnyXS was spot on so thanks,I think that coupled with the correct plug colour and general smooth running etc my set up is pretty much bang on .
I cant claim all the credit as I had a lot of help and advice in re building from Hxpaul so thanks to Paul also all the other the LCGB members who have helped me and others with the benefit of expert advice on this invaluable forum. :D
One thing I would say as a word of caution as previously stated BE CAREFULL :!: It's not easy and if the engine picked up or dies suddenly you could easily loose control.

Thats fantastic Phil I was thrilled also when my test confirmed my main jet spot on.

I wish I could claim credit but I read about the test on another forum somewhere. It might have been a motorbike forum.
We should start a thread on main jet choke test results ;)
If your engine bogged slightly I would guess that your main jet is possibly slightly rich but the recommendation on the site I read suggested to go up one size to protect the engine on sustained high speeds so I reckon you have yours spot on.

If you go onto the Cambridge Lambretta workshops site you will find Pdf files to download (how to tune your carburettor )
It explains all you need to no ' very informative especialy the bit about adding more oil ! 8-)

Just to update, I had the stator strobed and the scoot dynoed and jetted at Chiselspeed last Friday, a respectable 8.5 bhp, which is not bad at all.
All good now - Andrew

thats great news Andie but what did they actually do ?

If we don't know what they did then there is no answer or conclusion to this thread and no potential help for others that arrive here .

Hello.

The stator was set and strobbed as it had slipped a few degrees and was well off.

I hadn't fitted the second earth as I thought the stator earthed; it does but an extra earth was fitted from the CDi unit to the flywheel cowling.

Plug was changed from a 7ES to an 8ES

Then some dyno & jetting.

I'd been running very lean as I have fitted a fast through mesh air-filter and a drilled out late S3 air box, I probably only need one of these things on an iron 175, if any...
jetting was quite severe!

blue before dyno, red after

I was also advised to tighten the u-bend (which I did) - I cannot get to the AFC exhaust bolts without removing the cowl so as to facilitate using a spanner (due to the u-bend curving over the bolts so socket access is impossible on LHS) so I am thinking of changing the U-bend and cutting the cowl for access.

The change is immense, outcome is I should have had it set-up long ago, as I often don't know as much as I think I do ;)

thats excellent Andie. I don't suppose you made a note of which atomiser and main jet they fitted did you ? ;)
A 2x degree change in timing is huge and on its own would make a big difference to power and performance.
Thanks for posting ;)

Great news interesting to hear about the airbox I was wondering if you kept the baffle in the original air scoop :?:
I also would be keen to know what jet sizes you ended up with .

The air box is a late series 3, i removed the stomach and drilled 12 x 10mm holes in it.
Its the original scoop but already had the baffle cut out.
MB fast flow mesh air filter. AF clubman.

It was jetted to make work what I had done to my carburation system...

jetting currently is, 50 choke, 48 pilot, atomiser 5899-2, main jet 142 :D

That's what works, well, on my current set-up.

wow thats a big main jet !

that just goes to show how effective a dyno session cab be.
Thanks for posting Andrew it should help others to find a starting point with a similar setup.

It would be interesting if you now did the uphill wide open throttle test and apply the choke.

Hi Andie
just goes to show I thought my main was big at 126 feel a bit inadequate now
Has the top speed improved as in your original post you said you thought it was slow.
just had a thought because your induction system is in effect sucking loads more air in thats why you need more fuel .
I would be interested to know what mpg your getting :?:

is that mpg or gpm ?
That is a huge main jet when you think that some Lambrettas use a 5889-1 Atomiser which only has a bore of 150

yes that's a massive main jet. pretty rock 'n' roll. I'm running in again; although i've done 2000K on the new engine I'm recommended to run in for 100/200 miles at least.
I'm using more petrol but until its run in I cannot report properly as I'm still being cagey half-throttle.

I have a somewhat silly set-up. I intend to get an MB big pipe exhaust and re-jet over the winter months with the fast flow air filter and reinstall the standard air box.

However I managed to summit the cow and calf today (in Ilkley) so happy enough.
