I've got a ts1 motor with mb inlet manifold (better frame clearance) but with a 3mm reed packer (worse frame clearance). This is going in my series 2 frame.
I'm going to use a protech rear shock, but can't decide whether to use a 300mm s3 shock or 310mm s2 shock.
I'm using either a curly jl3 or clubman so footboard clearance is not an issue.
What are the pros and cons of the 2 shock lengths? Furthermore, is it really irrelevant if I NEED the shorter length to achieve sufficient frame clearance?
Opinions and facts welcome.
By the way, I'm not keen to use eccentric cones so please don't suggest it.

You clearly stand the best chance of making it all fit with the 300mm shock. I assume that you currently can't do a dry build, or else you wouldn't be posting on here.
I have a Harry Barlow barrel, which I believe has the same exterior dimensions as a TS1. I have a spacer and a Jimmers flange manifold (similar to the LTH one) and I have got it all in on standard cones and a R1 shock (300mm). It is tight, so be careful about what gaskets you fit throughout the inlet tract, but it fits.
The downside of a short shock is a small decrease in ground clearance, but if you are not racing on the track, then you are unlikely to notice.

Thanks, it's for a road bike, so I don't feel ground clearance is a major consideration. I'll go for the 300mm one then.

Not sure if all R1's are the same but mine is 295mm, a bit shorted than the S3 (300mm)
