kickstart rubber recommendations

Postby DaveTomo » Sun Apr 09, 2017 10:45 am

Looking for recommendations please for a decent long lasting kickstart rubber (the lever not the bung in the sidecasing). Ideally a hard rubber type (almost plastic?) - I seem to get through about 2-3 a year. I know they're not big money but just gets on my t*ts a bit when they wear out so quickly or fly off into the distance!
Kickstart lever at present a remade SX 200 , but have had the same issue with original Innocenti and Indian kickstart levers.May eventually go for the drilling a hole and fitting a bolt and and washer method, but thought I'd try one more go.Have used so far Scootopia and Indian ones various.

I don't think there is anything that can be done to be honest. The rubber strikes the ground and soon looks tatty. There is no one that is better than another I find. Because they are always going to hit. Be interesting to make one that is really hard out of some sort of polyurethane or something, with a metal strip on the leading edge. Maybe you could even bond a strip of metal to an existing rubber? Otherwise kicking it over off the stand and leaning to one side might help.

Got a big nylon zip tie/tie wrap on mine. Still wears out over time, but stays on longer.

Think they're supposed to wear out, better that than the kickstart itself ?

I got mine from a place in Halifax that has a real buzz about it. I think I'm breaking forum rules if I mention a particular business? Anyway it's been on 3 years now and it's never budged. I'm a low mileage rider though.

Thank you chaps - going to try a Casa one. I know they're a disposable commodity -one went off into orbit yesterday when |I kicked it up, just wondered if anyone had any "these are good" type of thing :) May try the zip tie method though, but if any dealers are reading I would be first in line for a polyurethane one ;)
