Hi Guys just looking for general census on Carb Filters,

Looking at putting a breath sweet filter on my scoot but wonder Is it really worth it in this country?

I have had one before but realised the side panel was squishing the elbow on the hose, therefore every time I stopped at a Junction I lost power pulling away, took it off and everything was running fine.

As I am booked in for a Dyno at weekend, looking for some answers.

What I have noticed on my new build is the elbow will not be squished this time, but has got me thinking is it necessary at all.

Will only be doing around 4-5000k a year. A Mixture of A/B roads.

whats your engine set up ? if you're thinking of putting a filter on you need to to it before you have it dyno'ed or any adjustments made at the dyno will need re doing once the filter is on

i'm sure that road debris can be sucked into an open carb anywhere in the world!

if you don't mind excessive wear on engine parts then it's not a problem running without but it's something i just can't do.

The induction roar you get with open mouth carbs on piston ported cylinders was cool, when you were young and daft. My girlfriend back then used to wear those Nylon socks called "pop socks" (remember them girls?) The fuel spitback from the carb used to melt the left sock off here foot. The amount of bollockings I got for that. Happy days.
I find the strap-on Ramair filter works really well. Makes a massive difference to how long a reed valve cylinder lasts. Doesn't limit performance, Easy to clean now and again and is cost effective to replace.

Put it this way. In France 2 years ago one of the guys got a piece of gravel jammed in the reed petals on his open mouthed TS1.

I have realised I have opened a thread in the other forum as well, my apologies.. Think I will double check that the elbow is not squishing, if not I think I will take the Aifilter with me to CS and see what they say, if it is squishing I will give it a miss.

Had a look at your thread 'Tuning & Kits: new 200 set up &/or Air filter options?' and a lot of information!

I think as mentioned before if I can get the filter on with no squish (Which seems to be the problem with a lot of these) then I will go for it.

If not WT1 where did you get your set up from? (The red one as shown in pic)

Just one more question! Honest!

Hypothetically if I got the scoot dyno with the filter on and say later on wanted to take it off (Losing too much performance) would I just need to change the Main jets? If so bigger or smaller to compensate for the more air?

My 200 with a 22 carb runs fine until I fit the brand new large Ramair. Then it won't rev properly.

Well Guys Placed the Air filter on today and it was badly squishing on elbow also forgot I have a mid range tank on so the foam was squished as well, I have measured the gap between the carb and the side panel and it is only 30mm which is 'Not a Lot!'

I will see what CS has when I get to the dyno at weekend.
