How do I get the race off to enable removal of the dust cover please?

The top text box says
Stickys book appears to show tapping it with a screw driver, the tip of the screw driver is behind a ridge, mine has no ridge

The bottom text box says
This is loose and has a small amount of up/down play between the race above and the fork

cheers

I was hoping to reuse the race or is that not a good idea?

There may be a small hole, or two, that is on the underside of the fork through which a pin punch can be pushed.

If so, you're in luck as you can drift the bearing off.

Failing that, heat up & persuade off with whatever you can use to pry it off, I'm afraid....

Subject to thorough examination, of course you'll be able to re-use it.

EBay item 172077318459.

I use mine for all sorts of things. Removing crankshaft inner bearing races being one example.

I've never had a problem using them, even 'back in the day' when a pin punch was probably any old nail! So the process should work.

I'd be tempted to clean up your old shield & compare before substituting for the new. The old parts generally were much better quality than the new stuff about these days.

Good Luck.

should be a small hole at the front underneath the race and same at the back , use a small punch and alternate taps front and back with a hammer , will come off dead easy :)
