Tyres...Another problem ?

Took the engine out for some winter maintance noticed a number of splits /cracks? around the circumference of my rear tyre a Heidenau k61.A year old and only a couple of thousand miles.
So a replacement is due ,Conti twists? Any recommendations ?

To be honest 2K miles on a scooter tyre is about right
for a replacement .

I've use k61 for 3 years now never had a problem and I've never had 2000 miles out of a tyre on the back.

I'd say you've worn it out

This is my third set of k61 and until now I've been really pleased with them, there's still plenty of tread on so maybe some exaggeration on milage !
Three to four hairline cracks ranging from 1to 3 inches long as if done with a very fine knife, right in the middle of the centre grove.

I think you are right to be concerned

Conti Twist Sport are good as are Dunlop ScootSmart, I've had them both and they were equally good on motorways and twisty mountain roads.

Those cracks need to be shown to the manufacturer as they may have a production problem.
They certainly done look like damage from the road surface but more a problem with the material which you often see with rubber after many years.

It almost seems like they have split on a seam of two halfs. Shall try and find out who I got them from and see if the manufacture wants to have a look.

Is the tyre itself a year old or has it just been in the rear of your Lambretta for a year? Also, what pressure do you run and is the scoot regularly weighed down with masses of rally gear, or a passenger?

Just checked my tyres and got a shock. The SIP one on the back was as good as bald and it had only done 801 miles, not good!

that's what I'm trying next after doing a tyre and a half on my 2,000 mile euro trip.

The dual compound definitely lasts a lot longer compared to a Raceman which only lasted me 1k miles.

Glasgow Lambretta had some really good deals.

Dunlop Scootsmart = really good grip all weather. On the Euro a rear lasted 2000 miles so I did the last 200 bald in the middle. Fronts last a lot longer. I really like them as a tyre and it's a manufacturer you can trust in my opinion.

The sidewall of the tyre will have a 4 digit code, I think. First two are the week of the year of manufacture the second two, the year. So, 4006 is the 40th week of 2006. The rubber in tyres, apparently, is quite badly degraded after 6 years so I have read.

I am interested as I have sworn by Heidenaus for the last 3 years.

I have seen this sort of wear before on old worn out tyres before of different makes.
