Barking up the Wrong Tree?

Postby ToBoldlyGo » Sun Mar 31, 2019 12:53 pm

You wouldn't believe it, but I'm really struggling to get a Casa 185 set up with a 22mm carb and a Scootopia clubman. It shouldn't be a problem, particularly as I run that set up on another scooter. It will not pick up from a standing start and often feels dead and lifeless until you rev high enough and then it really kicks in. It gives indications of being too rich, but I fail to understand why when my other kit is fine. It occurs to me that it might possibly be electrics, after all that. Especially as it doesn't seem to run cleanly, even when it is going, and there is a bit of a miss. Perhaps some of you electrical guru's might know if that is a possibility? I can just about get away with jetting, but electrics really is a dark art to me.

Have you tried swapping over the carb from your hood scooter to rule out fuelling?

I have tried another carb, jetted as per my good one. Still seems very rich though, so that's a bit of a mystery.

Timing could be too retarded I suppose. I must admit I didn't do it. But I can get that checked quite easily.

I have a Casa 185 and a Casa 210(big brother to the 185 kit)I have a PHBL 25 carb on each one,the 210 runs richer than the 185 with the same jets and atomiser, both on 12v ignition and strobed at 17 degrees,go figure.

Is it easy enough to start? I advanced my timing a tad (same setup ish) but mine also runs cleaner once revs are up I have carb off at the mo so might look at a jet change.

I assume your running through the airbox , is the air scoop baffled or a open Gp type ? i find the smaller kits with a small carb seem to work better with a baffled scoop fitted .. but which ever scoop your using try swapping for the other type and try that .

I've warned the vicious bastard. It's going to have a damned good thrashing. Hopefully the matter will be taken in hand this weekend. So fingers crossed.

Do a strobe timing check and make sure it isn't retarding when revved out. This can happen if the pickup is duff or alignment is incorrect.
