Just contemplating my first crank change...
I’ve read up about it, freezing the bearings and heating the casing etc but all the photos and videos I’ve seen show it done with the engine out and on its side. I can see that dropping things in and knocking them out on a solid surface vertically is preferential but is it simple enough with the engine in, ie horizontally? Or is that asking for trouble? I was also wondering if I’ll save myself a ton of grief buy buying the pullers and drift for getting the bearings in and out.
Any advice on this gratefully received

It is possible to change the crank and bearings with the engine in the scooter.

Agreed it is certainly possible but a lot easier on the knees if you drop the engine out to do it imho. You can get the crank out and back in without special tools but its quite easy to damage your old crank getting it out if you knock it out with a hammer so a crank puller/removal tool would definitely help.

I should have added, I have a ramp so won’t be rolling around on the floor! I was more thinking of the angle of access. I’ll get some correct tools!

Yes easy enough to do in frame on bench just get a crank pusher/extractor and a con rod holding tool first, last time I looked Lambretta upgrades were the best on price.
I’m guessing you already know about using your drive bolt and drive sleeve to draw the new crank into position.

I read in Sticky’s book about that... but hadn’t worked out how to do it yet. I imagine it’s simple enough? I’ll get the other tools, it’s been recommended that I get a bearing pusher/puller as well but they’re quite pricey...
