Good evening. Im setting up a rt195 kit with a 60x110 crank. Im at the dry build stage at the moment and as can be seen from the attached images ive managed to get the piston level with the transfers at bdc but its 1mm above the exhsust port. Im new to all this and was wondering if this is correct.

I have no experience of your particular kit, but if setting up any cylinder, it is usual to have some ball park figures as to what to aim for as far as all port timings. I have no idea of whether there are kits available to suit longer strokes, but one kit cannot suit all strokes available.......not without some modification.

The fact that you have a longer stroke (60 mm) means that you may have to modify all ports to achieve the optimum. It may work to your advantage, in packing the cylinder upwards to level the exhaust port with the piston crown as the result advance in transfer timing may be good with the longer stroke.

The guy that designed your kit ought to have an idea of what you should be aiming for, (especially as he often had comments about other manufacturer's kits), so he must surely have optimum port timings for his own product.

Use a 3mm base packer and a 2.0- 2.5 head gasket to get around 1.2mm for squish i think from my last rt engine build using 60x110 crank ;)the exhaust port is lower on the 195 compared to the 225 which would be level

Yes as above use a 3 or maybe you need a 2mm base packer, try to get piston crown level with exhaust port especially if you’re going to be using an expansion pipe otherwise you’ll run the risk of melting the edge of the crown.

One more thing, I’ve looked at your pictures and the plating looks horrific! Its full of pin holes think I’d be sending that straight back to the supplier! :o

The cyclinder was run as a piston ported kit for 18 months. I then decided to get it converted to reed valve. Cyclinder was sent off for the conversion and returned cleaned up with the work done and and new piston. I take it the best place to send the kit to get replated is langcourt. Is it just a case off sending the cyclinder and piston ( with or without rings?) to them. Also any idea off the cost. Once again thanks for the honest replys. Slso ive been on to mb and they recommend fitting a 3.5 mm base packer and a 1.5 head packer to bring everything in line and to get a squish off 1.3 mm. Cheers

Everyone seems to think Aptek and their ceramic plate is better than Langcourts nikasil. I’ve never had anything done at Langcourts but had a freshly Aptek plated cylinder wear out in 4000 miles and another one now with signs of wear on it so next time I’ll be going to Langcourts for sure.

Yes send your piston with the barrel with all studs removed (no need to send rings) cost around £170.
