Legshield runners

Postby gazzar15 » Wed Mar 04, 2020 11:41 pm

Just been adding the finishing touches to my series 3 and have bought 2 sets of runners to finish both my legshield and the runners.Bought the first set as stainless with rubbers inside them not the best to be honest....a lousy fit.Same goes for set number 2 at a lower price point ....another waste of time...my question. Is where can I get a decent set for sensible money?
Thanks

I would not recommend using these runners. The rubber inserts, particularly at the ends allow the stainless strips to contact the paintwork when tightened.

And they are "slippery when wet " ;)

Never had a problem with reasonable priced runners from AF or SR on all types and origin of legshields

I've bought from most of the dealers over the years but quality of parts from Scootopia are hard to beat imo, I also rate Cambridge lambretta...just my opinion but might help from wasting money on bad fitting parts from India

Replaced my runner rubbers today, on my Li125 series 3, and the runners themselves are aluminium, not stainless steel.
As such they can more easily be teased into shape to follow the form of the legshield and the channels themselves can be opened up slightly to ease the insertion of the rubber. The rubbers went in no problem with a touch of 3 in 1 oil for lubrication.
Didnt have a problem when I replaced them a few years ago. Bought from Scooter Restorations i think.
Perhaps because yours are made of stainless, this is the problem?

The original runner channels were alloy and probably a reasonable fit to original legshields. 50 odd years down the line who knows what's happened to the legshields and what relation they bear to the shape they left the factory in. Add in aftermarket stainless runners and you're on a hiding to nothing. Expect shredded finger tips.

You have to be prepared to make them fit by a tweak here and there. Once the channels are in place heat the rubber inserts in boiling water to soften them and use a small flat screwdriver to persuade then into place.

I think we are taking of two sorts of runners here, the original style and the stainless steel ones with the rubbers insert, as see insert.

The photo you have put up show floorboard runners, not legshield runners.
Perhaps we have been talking about two different things?
Anyway the plastic floorboard ones i got from Scootopia a few weeks ago fitted no problems onto the floor boards i recently bought from somewhere else.
Perhaps youve just got a bad batch?
