There's gotta be a solution Bilko. I can empathize with your frustration and that's probably hiding the problem. Because in the end, these are very simple machines. It's spark or fuel, but you do seem to have gone through the process of elimination. But in the past I've made the mistake of thinking that there was only one component defective, such as the CD unit, when in fact it turned out to be 2. So in the process of elimination I was always putting a defective bit back. So if you have fuel coming through, borrow a mates working electrics to eliminate bogus parts. But he'd better be a good friend if you screw up.

I want to send you £4.99 to buy a tin of Bradex Easy Start from Halfords !!

That will confirm or eliminate fuelling.

LOL! Thanks Chris. I'll get some at the weekend.

I still believe it's something stupidly simple, but can't put my finger on it. A whole new set of parts while hopefully help.

I'm going to get a new BGM stator (4th one). A Ducati CDI (3rd one) Flywheel (3rd one) Another HT lead, another Spark plug cap, and a few plugs. I'm chucking out all the plugs I have.

All this for sometime in the new year though. Can't be done this side of christmas.

Christmas is months away, surely.

Get yer arse out to the shed Bilko. Getting this scooter running would be the best Christmas present you could give yourself.

It would Martin, but financial restrictions (effin broke) means it'll have to wait. :)

Robert ;) , if you put your suspected 'duff' stators and CDI's in a box or at least one of them and post to me I'd be happy to give them the once over (swap coils if necessary) and even try them on my own scoot. Then you would KNOW the bits were good and save yourself the cost of a new stator, just PM me if you're interested ;)

The only thing that I can see that you haven't changed is the wiring loom? I'm thinking that you can try a new loom without physically removing the old one, just swapping all the connections over?

enough already, disconnect one wire from the cdi and the loom is isolated from the ignition system. hasn't the poor sod stripped enough off this bike.

far better off reading articles on the web about the principles of basic fault finding, doesn't have to be lambretta specific. At first they will mean very little read over and over the fundamentals will sink in.

Adam_Winstone wrote:Soz if this has been covered already but you've not swapped out stators for one that has the Indian market colours have you, which a pal of mine did recently? Once he had twigged to the colour differences his motor barked up immediately... but spent ages trying to find other causes before seeing the issue. In this case my pal was swapping a failed Italian one for a known working Indian one but then got the colours wrong.

:D
Tis true... lined 3 stators up together and twigged the red and yellow wires had been transposed on my working SIL compared to a BGM that I had taken off as it had failed previously. Check like for like wires going in to loom connections and ignore colours ... dead motor barked up immediately. Feckin pished off and chuffed at the same time down to wasted time and three bikes in bits sourcing parts.

Throttle cable snapped?

DTaylor thumb choke grub screw fully clamping wire?
Choke plunger fully clearing hole to let carb breath ?

... another way.

Put a known running motor into your frame. If it barks up you can discount frame, loom, CDI, ignition switch etc etc. then you can discount all of your 'static' components. Then 'simply' replace components from your duff motor onto the runner one component at a time until it fails. Hey presto, fault found. If it doesn't bark up, your frame components are at fault, not the motor. Worth a shot?

If that don't work put another frame on the good engine.

...................So........... I'll very shortly have my CDI's and Stators back from Colin (Coaster) who very kindly tested and cleaned them up. Hopefully I'll get a chance at the weekend to have another go at getting the LI running.
