Mid Range Fuel Tank

Hello you lovely people!

I want a mid range tank for my series 2, so I can retain my toolbox. I have an Avanti TT3 kit with a 30mm PMBH on the left hand side.

Just spoken to Oiltek, and they have stopped making them? Bugger!

Any suggestions?

As far as I know there is pretty much only the one mid range tank available now, and they seem to be widely available. Try Martin Hyland at Just Lambretta. I'm sure he has them.

I am after a mid range tank to allow me to use the standard toolbox and a PHBH30 with a Breath Sweet filter standing vertically.

At the moment, I am toying with the idea of getting one of the Lambretta Upgrades ones and having the cut out enlarged by a metal fabricator.

Are there any other options ?

It seems to me that a lot of dealers stock the mid range tanks from Saigon Scooter Centre (SSC), as below. Sadly, SSC don’t do one with only a full length cut out on the normal carb side. But they do do one with two cutouts as you can see.



I have no reason to doubt that these are well made. But, given the possible consequences of a tank splitting, I am anxious to get some feedback from anyone who has used one of the SSC ones over a period of time.

Has anyone any feedback please?

I've had a mild steel one with the std style cutouts for a few year with no problems the issue seems to be with the stainless steel ones. If you get one make sure you give the inside a good clean before fitting

I have one - the version that bolts in rather than uses straps
- be wary of putting in Spanish S2 - its didnt fit (despite being told it would). Ended up cutting the seam from the front and having it rewelded. Even then its a ridiculoulsy tight fit
- as per earlier ansers - make sure you give it a good wash out before use.
- The bolt in brackets failed fairly quickly - had to get them rewelded.

Mike at Torbay Lambretta has a mid-range tank with full height cut outs on both sides listed on his web site.

Sadly, Warren doesn’t stock the ones with the full length cut out, however, as mentioned above, Torbay do.

I am no engineer but I have never liked the look of any petrol tank that is bolted in rather than resting largely on rubber. I have had a Diablo one on my TS1 for many years. They are heavy, especially when full. Yet, mine rests on the bottom rubber mounts, a strategically placed panel rubber between it and the frame, and the standard fit at the front.

I’ll go with the Torbay one which, I think, is the SSC one. I may get it pressure tested but, as suggested, I shall clean it out properly beforehand and, maybe, seal it.

I have one of the double cut out tanks bought from Torbay Lambretta.The actual filler point extends into the tank.Thus if at any time you wish to clean the inside of the tank with pebbles/nuts&bolts it is not easy to remove them.
As I say I have one but am disinclined to use it

Roli, is that the only reason you don’t like it? I ask as I always clean tanks by chemical means so that wouldn’t put me off, yet

Yes it is Paul.i just don't like that filler point is not flush as on original tanks.

Just got one of Chiggy’s midrange tanks and i’m after after some tips on fitting it as its very tight getting the filler under the frame loop. Would taking the tool box out make it easier and if so is it then a pain to get the tool box in once the tank is in place?

They are a sod to get in, and you will be cut to ribbons with stainless straps, be prepared.
Leave the toolbox in
I've always had to reduce all the rubbers.
Fitted 3 and 4 and all been the same.

Emery cloth the tank straps as Gaz mentions the edges are like razors
When fitting the tank wrap it in an old T-shirt & pull it into position
