EXHAUST BRACKET UNDER THE CASING.

Postby Lam Bretta » Sat Dec 05, 2020 9:46 pm

Hello all,
I have a '62 series 3, i recently bought a AVANTI EX BOX ST exhaust for it, it states in the paperwork, that the warranty is invalid if any of the fixing brackets are
unused, it states that pre '68 engine casing's DO NOT have the bolt hole for the underneath engine casing bracket on the exhaust, so therefore if i fit this exhaust and it god forbid breaks i have no discourse as the underneath fixing was not used (no tapped block to bolt it into) so..has anyone else come across this issue fitting box style exhausts and is there perhaps a bracket of some sort out there which bolts onto the engine casing studs and fits underneath the engine casing to which the exhaust bracket will then also bolt onto.

It has been suggested to weld a block into the engine fins underneath the casing and then tap it and thus bolt the exhaust to it, but i would rather not go to those extremes as it means a total dismantling of the engine, i'm thinking there must be some kind of fix for this - or does no one ever bother to bolt that bracket to the casing, and just use the 2 main case brackets and tail pipe bracket.

Thanks for any advice / links / tips
Cheers Baz

Hi Baz, had the same thing with my ST. There was a lug on the casing that I could tap and thread but then needed a short (maybe 2") connecting plate from that to the exhaust, seems to have done the job though.

Thanks for the reply, yes i have a square solid block which could be tapped nearer the back of the casing and yes a few inches to the right looking face on of the exhaust bracket, so how did you connect the extra 2" piece to the exhaust bracket ? simple welded nut underneath & bolt through it ?

Cheers again Baz

Just a nut and bolt onto the exhaust bracket Baz, that sat snugly against the casing and hopefully reduces any movement or vibration.

What engine are you running? I'm using a 30mm PHBH on a Quattrinni.
