Ron Moss ex box bolt on muffler

Postby al pushpak » Fri Apr 23, 2021 10:02 am

Hi, currently running one of the above exhausts on my Ts1 & while I love the performance it is a bit loud which I know is the case on larger cc Lambrettas, the bolt on tailpipes are currently out of stock & I can't really justify paying another £90 anyway after the initial purchase of the exhaust I was thinking of maybe fabricating something using a VW chrome tailpipe which used to be fitted to the old clubman upswept exhausts, my question is, do you think it would quite down the tail pipe noise much? or is it a case of keep on using the ear plugs! Lol! interested in your thoughts. Cheers

I think the noise inevitable with an exhaust that has been constructed with 'safe' pewrformance in mind.

Those manufacturers that build a Clubman with a small tailpipe essentially compromise the engine in allowing heat build up. In fact, there is one 'Development' manufacturer that writes prolifically about their claims on websites, including how long & how many development exhausts have culminated in their all-singing, all-dancing Clubman. It might be Roman as it has a V in it.....Anyway, whether it is made by Romans or Lizards from another planet, the tailpipe is too small for any well set-up tuned engine that needs to get rid of waste gases without a physical restriction to doing so.

I don't think a VW Beetle type muffler will last &, in any case, they are also restrictive.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could find a two stroke silencer in kit form within the UK, sourced from an auction site for about 15 quid? That way, you could shorten one to suit what you have prior to packing & assembling!

(PM me if I haven't given you enough clues to find 'em!)
