Rewiring 6 volt AC stator to 6 volt DC

I've a couple of 6 volt GP flywheels and AC stators, is it possible to rewire them to DC like the electronic stators?
Can't find any info on this and have the full set up for my TV200 with battery etc.

One end of the lighting coils is connected to the stator earth; disconnect this from earth, then solder a new length of wire to it so that there are 2 lighting coil wires through the sleeving back to the regulator. You can easily buy a 6VDC reg/rec from ebay etc. Connect both lighting coil wires to the input of the new regulator and you'll get 6VDC from the output.

Easy job.
