Inlet manifold 200 spacing

Postby Storkfoot » Thu Mar 24, 2022 10:02 am

I am after an inlet manifold to attach a PHBH30 to a standard 200 cast barrel. I thought this would be dead easy but perhaps not.

From what I can see, MB do two. One is the short type that the rubber bolts to. The other is advertised as being for choppers in that it points the carb forwards slightly. Somehow, I suspect that both may well force the carburettor to catch on either the engine mount or the cylinder cowling.

The only other one I can see is a Mugello type with a slotted hole allowing it to be used for 200 and 125-175 casings. This uses the car radiator type hose which, if possible I’d rather not use.

Are there any others out there, or has anyone any real life experience with any of the inlet manifolds I mention?

The PHBH30 is to be used with a breath sweet remote filter situated between the standard tank and toolbox.

I've also had trouble with the slotted hole type ones leaking air through the slots as the gasket face can be minimal. I'd try to avoid those from now on.

I know its from beedspeed but the af rayspeed site is so slow loading. if it's what you're looking for then call Rayspeed.

Paul
Pm me your address and ill drop two alteratives in the post to try, one is an AFR and one i think is malossi.
Both use a standard tubular rubber.
The AF one i have fitted a mates bike, no issues around mounts, just routing the petrol tap and rod.
Alternatively Im in liverpool next Saturday.

I thought I had heard this before. I’ll discount that one then. Thanks.

Cheers. I should have looked at the AF site but forgot. They are out of stock anyway. I’ll take Mr Powell up on his kind offer :D PM sent, Gaz.

I wouldn’t use Beedspeed if they were the last dealer on the planet. They seem to have someone good on Google algorithms, which is why they always pop up first on searches but they have no sense of customer service at all.

Probably a little late to the party, but I'm a fan of the BGM flange type that was specifically made for the RT195/225 kits. MB also do a version of this same design, but it's cast, not CNC, which is arguably more aesthetically pleasing.

They're both 'large block' spacing and position the carb upright and away from the panel in roughly the same orientation as the OEM Dell'Orto fitment. IMHO the flange design is vast superior and possibly less likely to result in split rubbers due to alloy baseplate and length of flange---though this is mere speculation, rather than hard evidence.

Thanks for your input, VS. I was about to buy one of those but took fright, probably wrongly, that they are so short that a pretty big carb, like the PHBH, may catch on the cylinder cowling and/or petrol tap rod.

I like the standard inlet rubbers. You just need to replace them periodically before problems happen.

Have You considered the old inlet manifold that was a popular item back in the 70's that was used with 30mm Dellorto's and 34mm Mk2 Amal's? There must be loads of them out there somewhere.

That’s probably what I was thinking about when I started looking a few days back. I was shocked to find that thee were so few options nowadays. I only want to build a stage 4 200 with a PHBH 30. These used to be ten a penny :?

I had 30mm on cast barrel, I've got the manifold somewhere if I scout round tomorrow. It fitted well under panels and had quite a lean back if I remember, last used 2004. It was either mb or af. I've got rt with mb die cast on now.
