AF 5 speed

Is the gear selector critical as in photo before fitting tie bar gear linkage as mine is pointing straight downwards

can you get 5th gear?

I could but there was sloppiness in the cables.
I attempted to take it out by pulling cables through the trunnions but now when I select 1st engine stalls when pulling away, feels as though it’s in a higher gear and also 5th is non selectable.

I had some problems setting my 5 speed up. I did find not only had I incorrectly adjusted cables but also the gear selector. Try using the gear selector without cables to see if the gears can be selected correctly. This will then let you know where the issue is likely to be - cable adjustment or gear selector adjustment
