Need specific detail for a particular model, or just found something strange and interesting and want to know if its original. All attention to detail seekers report here!

Hi All,
After 35 years, back in the saddle.
I've picked up an SX150 with some strange coding - Frame number SX 7724-- which makes the scooter 1968 original UK registered. Engine SX150 2054-- which is a GP150 1969, could this have been put together at the factory, as I am aware Innocenti were selling GP 150's and SX150's at the same time, all matches the log book. Could be interesting, or just a replacement engine, any ideas?

I have never heard of a GP150 engine being put in an SX150 at the factory. Unless it is, as far as you can tell, an original scooter then I’d assume that the original engine has been separated from the frame at some point in its life.

I bought my own SX150 (originally registered in UK in March 1968) minus engine, forks, headset and seat. As I had an SX150 2… casing lying around, I built an engine for the scooter out of that casing. I too have a GP150 engine in an SX150 :)

From what I understand, towards the end of model lines they used to use up parts from previous models, maybe an SX frame with no SX engine available, ends up with an SX stamped GP, who knows!
What I would like to know about yours is, what carb are you using, assuming a standard engine? I've got Dellorto SH1 20 as per SX150, but if it is a SX stamped GP150 that would carry an Dellorto SH2 22!
Also what gearing are you using, mine is standard SX150, long between 3rd and 4th, would like something more useable, I'm not doing motorways, Cumbrian lakeland B roads, lots of twisty roads with short bursts of straight.

Sorry. Mine’s not a standard engine. It was only a GP150 casing, there were no internals. I actually have a Casa 185 kit, GP200 gearing, Dell’orto PHBL25, standard GP200 exhaust.

In your case, if you want to keep it standard, the gap in your gearing between 3rd and 4th gears will be absolutely fine. The gap only becomes very noticeable when you have a highly tuned engine. An SH1/20 will be a good choice as would a standard mushroomless exhaust.

Just a note, your logo I had painted along with girl with balloon in my old apartment by an unnamed artist from Bristol, unfortunately the photo was too big to publish here. not sure how to attach it here any smaller.

I uploaded that avatar here many years ago. I honestly can’t remember where I found it or how I did it :?
