Personally I would re-Nikasil the bore & discuss that more with a good plater such as Langcourts. They offer services to obtain the precise requirement to suit your set-up including lining - I think - but please check. If memory serves, I have had cylinders re-plated & a Rapido cylinder fitted with a liner by them.

If it helps, I can recall that at the time, there was negligible difference in costs between lining & plating & the reason for choosing the liner in the Rapido was to comply with current racing regulations. Langcourts will Nikasil the bore of cast iron cylinders which may be of interest to other members. Rumour has it that Ray Kemp had a plated bore in his Group Four racer when regulations allowed & that was definitely a quick machine…..

I had an RT225 done by Langcourts recently, They don't quote until they see it now incase it needs welded etc.

I took all the studs out manifolds off, boxed it up with a new piston (no rings) and sent it off, they rang to quote and sent it back in about 3 weeks.

I had a cast iron liner put in an old Mugello cylinder at a specialist place, it was a good job done well but I think the port timings they did were a bit out, both exhaust and inlet too big and consequently the power was peaky and it drank fuel. Apparently you can get them to rough the ports and you finish time them yourself which is what I should have asked for.

Cost wise both plating and lining were about same.

Have a word with Mark Bennett (username Solid Air) his Quattrini and his new RB 270 build are both steel lined. Check out his RB270 project in this group.
