Clutch/gear cables

Postby Peterp » Sun Jun 14, 2026 10:45 am

Morning all,
Fitting the cables yesterday but noticed that clutch and two gear cables are the same length when reaching the adjuster block. If fitted this way then there is a loop of cable which cannot go anywhere.
I sorted it by cutting the outer, removing the ferrel and refixing. It now lies alongside the other cables as I would expect.
Is this normal and have I done the right thing.
Any advice welcome.

I am confused by your post, does not the longer clutch outer cable not loop over and go into the handlebars to the lever?

Yes tractor man, when all three cables are in situ, all tight in the headset and lever housing all three cables are the same length above the adjuster. As you will know, the clutch adjuster is closer to the front on the scooter than the gearchang. Therefore the clutch cable outer is past the adjuster by about 3inches.
It’s probably me being daft or something, but if the clutch cable outer is fitted into the adjuster nut, then it loops up way above the other two. Looks untidy
