It's very unusual for me to retorque heads up and if I do they always click off at the setting.I locktite the studs in the casing then use thick flat washers and semi permanent locktite on the nuts which are usually the deep MB nuts on performance kits.Ive found that thin head gaskets are the main cause of heads leaking so I tend not to use them and machine the head to suit,so far not had one motor failure for years and several have done Euro's etc.

Agree. They are great in their place. I use them on stub manifolds. I wouldn't use them elsewhere as I have had to chisel them off non stub exhaust manifolds which resulted in needing new studs. Not great if you have to do it at the side of the road.

As to the gym well, yes, someone has clearly shown you photographic evidence :-)

Sorry just to,be clear, are you saying the nuts are hard to remove when using Nordlocks or the washers themselves?

You can get the nuts off no issue but, sometimes, the washers themselves just seem to lodge themselves in the thread of the stud. I had to use a chisel to get some off and sacrifice the studs. Thankfully, that was in the garage during a rebuild. If I'd have had to that that at the side of the road in the rain ..........

I see. Well sort of anyway. I work on pipelaying ship deck equipment which as you can imagine is a really sh1tty environment for fasteners and have never had this issue. That said, they aren't exposed to exhaust manifold temperatures.

Is this a one-off? Were they carbon or stainless washers?

You should buy my exercise dvd. I believe there are still some left over from the Christmas rush.

They are steel. Had rusted a bit. Only happened once but it put me off using on an exhaust that may have to come off at the side of the road.
