Hi: silly question and I'm kicking myself as I really should know such a simple answer hopefully!

Italian GP200 with electronic kit etc, no battery fitted.

I want to set up my SIP speedo for tyre circumference and I have a lighting issue to travel (nothing on rear light/brake light).

I don't want to have to run the engine just to sort this out (as it's stored in an alley).

So is it simply a case of wiring a battery directly to the regulator -if so which wire go's where?

Just take the live output wire from the regulator and stick it on the battery - earth the other terminal of the battery to the frame.

cheers Digger, I did realise it was this straightforward 5 minutes later but am currently full of this nasty flu bug going around so can hardly tie my laces at the mo!

Tim, it's a very good idea to put a fuse in line with the battery while you are testing just in case you put a short on, if it's a car or even an alarm battery there will be enough current available to fry your wiring in seconds

Halfords do in line blade type fuse holders as do Maplin, use a 3 amp or lower fuse

Cheers Coaster, will do, it's a rather knackered 12v scooter battery that didn't have enough guts to get Katies s125 starting any more so I've given it a charge and will use it as a tester!

Ah yes - almost fried my TV3 the first time I fiddled around with it - so used to AC set-ups. :oops:

Can I leave the battery in full time to run my lights, when the engine is not running, and will it charge when she is running, taking a live feed and earth to the battery.

Yes but you will need to do the full DC conversion using a Wassel single phase regulator/rectifier.

Thanks for your replies. Can any of the nice people, tell me how to fit, and where i can get the parts to be able to fit a battery, and be able to charge from my sil GP.

Hi Kennystag,
I used a 5 amp/ hr battery .If you don't have a battery tray you can bolt one to the underside of the air box.The wassell D.C mod is well worth fitting.I have separate inline fuses for lights, indicators and alarm.

Note right hand battery clamp thread lines up with hole in tool box enabling bracket to support weight of battery

Note inline fuses. The relays are for simple alarm. SIL GP 12volt DC still with points.

I did a quick post about a home made leak down tester here

If you search the forum with the words leak and test other posts will come up, that's how I started with it.
I've since modified my tester to incorporate a pressure gauge, I'll post a pic of the new setup on that page above soon.
