RB20 Piston choice

Postby gaz_powell » Sat Feb 07, 2015 5:43 pm

I have a knackered barrel on the shelf and am looking to steel line it and built a spare motor (or this will probably be the seed to build another bike !)

Looking at piston options am I right in thinking that a Yamaha blaster 200 was the piston used in the kit ?

Hi Gaz,
ye that's right its the Yamaha YFS 200 -Blaster-although you can use other pistons.(AF now use wossner equivalent) I've had couple of RB200 cylinders lined the last one used a DT piston and has proven to be very reliable. you could also use RD pistons from 64mm and take advantage of over-sizes available, however you would but loose a few cc's. Be careful as the liner is very delicate at 66mm.

Cheers Darren

I like the idea of the RD to leave some meat on it - the loss of cc from 66 to 64mm will be minimal

Aye, and at Mitaka type prices the RD piston is well worth it. You could get a spare, which is what the liner is really all about. Should you get a problem out on the road, you might be able to clean it up as best possible, fit a new piston and go again. With Nicasil thou, you are bolloxed :(

Paul

Fahron Engineering in Hucknall Notts
He did my TS1 barrel and head for a Yam IT 175 (66mm) - lovely job but you cant rush him !!

But i know a few people who use these http://www.pjme.co.uk/acatalog/Cylinder ... eving.html
