Have you not got a Brown feed coming up from the Loom this is usually the main Power feed for your Lights and will go with the Brown from your ignition which looks like it has the horn feed joined in with it ?

Also i would earth the headlight block to the headset bottom

There is no Brown feed from loom, from what I can see this is the Red wire top left the Brown wire is from the ign. sw. the Red wire from the loom is connected to a blue from the loom and another blue from the ign. sw.

If you have access to a multimeter you need to find out which colour wire brings the power
Up the the headset from the loom

At the moment, your red and blue are going to nothing.

The red & blue are connected to the blue from the ignition sw. I`ve left it alone now for a bit, and will be off to modrapheniacs, Sandford for the weekend, and will resume next week. look forward to any suggestions for when I get back !

All sorted, basically it was a combination of 3 faults, worse was, there was a blue wire from the regulator in the place where the brown wire from the ignition switch should have been, this blue wire from the regulator was discarded, the dip/horn switch worked intermittently and was somehow shorting, hardest to find was a faulty connection between the two orange wires in the bulb holder connectors, trouble I found was, thinking I've cured it then finding the lights still didn't work as there was still a fault elsewhere. Relief.
