I know a single toggle switch on some form of bracket is the simplest, but I dont like the look. Rocker switches are another way but you have to push the opposite side to turn the buggers off and with gloves on it will be harder still.

Yep, I can vouch for that, I tried 2 toggle switches and the 2nd one with a waterproof rubber cover over it worked well but I decided to change to the Li type which is as you say a pain in the arse to operate especially with winter gloves on. The Honda Cub solution mentioned above is seriously neat and I will be following this route soon.

Bajaj did have on older Chetaks (the proper Sprint Veloce horncast type) a black indi switch modelled on the old Sprint chrome type switches and I do believe there are chrome enclosed versions available which could be affixed to the underside of a switch housing.

Trouble is more wires in an already quite busy area. Allstyles in the US do a gear handle indi switch which looks a touch obtrusive but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to modify any motorbike handlebar mounted switch onto the gear handle or even modify the underneath of the gear changer web to fit a three way toggle switch such as those used on the three wire Vespa PK circuits.

One thing I put back on my T5 was the nag chime, it was quite loud on my Baj and it means stupid people can hear you even though about three feet away is this baffleless Simonini making all that loud noise like ^^

I have a few quids worth of switches and relays on a slow boat from China. Looking at an aluminium block a bit similar to the welded one. Bit more angle grinder shaping from a bit of billet aluminium. The fact that I am running full DC helps as Im not fighting ACDC. Keeping it all LED should keep it all in small wire and under 2 amp.
The flasher unit on my series 1 has a sounder that I have had to put tape over the hole to tone it down. Pisses the guys off in the club but it will always be a Vespa rider with his indicator on for miles and miles.

The perennial problem with using an indicator switch on the gear changer is that the wires get cut when any free play develops in the mechanism, it's why the Indians and Spanish stopped using them.

On the throttle side thin wire can be had from Maplin (only available in blue) and/or you can reduce the diameter of the throttle rod to give some clearance.

Well its been a while but I have been messing. probably a bit OTT but they work well. Next step an alarm circuit adding with a screamer alarm and to activate the indicators.....maybe
Image
A few bits and bobs and a set of bar end weights donated by a mate
Image
5 sets of LEDs so they show front and back even when turned
Image
just dab the switch and it stays on till you hit the middle one should have been a red one, added bonus hit them both and its hazard lights
Image
PCB ended up a bit big, its got the flasher and a sounder built in
Image
The rear repeaters can be seen fine when back from the bike but a bit hidden under the spare wheel.
Sorry guys it wont work on AC. Spent a long time trying to get small latching buttons but they are all very deep on the rear. The momentary push to make ones are very shallow on the rear and waterproof. it would have been a lot easier with a 3 way switch

Liking your work Monty, though the plant in the kitchen window could do with a bit of water.

It's all scratch built I'm afraid, the bar end weights can be had on eBay. I span them up in a fixed electric drill and used my favourite tool the angle grinder with a 1mm cutting disk to cut them in half adding a small groove to hold an o ring. The tube is 25mm and was a perfect fit for the aluminium ends. The festoon LEDs are Amber smd's and come out with the resistor attached. The smaller tube is 13mm and I bought it originally thinking of cutting a bit out of the rubber leg shield edging but it needed to be a larger diameter. It was a good fit inside the larger outer tube with the LEDs fixed on with double sided tape. Bolt through the middle screwed into a plate tack welded into the grip tube. Getting the wires through the end bearing block took a bit of messing but the wires go through a bit of nylon tube. It should give support to the wire. The PCB was a pain as the relays ended up a bit big. They are double pole relays the switch puls in the relay and the other contact latches the coil in the reset button supply's the voltage to latch the relay. It a push to break. It's all on vario board and could be half the size with smaller relays. Of course I went ott by adding a cap to smooth the supply and it's all fused a 2 amp. Go for a 3 position switch its a lot easier.

You may be able to use these bar end lamps too

Maybe try this indicator switch?

Just a point. The bar ends here look great but they do need to go into the end of the handlebars. One thing I found was that depending on what you have got the ends of the grips differ wildly. My series 1 LI has the splined inner shaft with a large spade that fits into a slot in the tube. This is what I had thought was on the special and the plan was to drill the shaft, thread it and bolt my bar ends direct to the shaft. The special had a nylon bush with a spring steel roll pin through it. No drilling that. The bush is around 13mm back so I had room to weld in a plate to then drill and tap. The plastic Amber lens looks to be usable though and as with everything Lambretta a fettling job. I had some winter gloves on yesterday and the buttons were a pain I was clipping the on button when cancelling the other one so still not perfect. It didn't help the the thumb on the glove is an inch longer than my thumb. Who the f.... Has thumbs that long
