Power jet or not?

Postby jonno » Sat Mar 07, 2015 3:10 pm

I have bought a power jet to fit to my dellorto 34mm carb fitted to my tuned TS1 sprinter. But reading the notes on the MB site it says dont fit them to TS1 and RBs,as the feed is too near the top of the float bowl and could possibly let in air.Is this referring to power jet carbs with built in power jets? as the retro fitted ones draw fuel from near the bot of carb bowl.

Probably, the old Amal ones are certainly on the front and with a fair bit of down draft you might just empty the bowl enough.

I'm not sure that it matters much where you fit it into the carb mouth as wherever you fit it the feed will be pointing into the centre of the carb but what I did read was that you don't want to fit it onto a curved section as this will point the feed outwards and it'll be less effective. The deeper you can get it into the carb the better, that might mean building up an area on the curve of the carb [with alloy bond] before you fit it.
