What's going on here - I don't recall seeing this before?

If its the parts that have been machined out of the case that you're meaning,I think its so the bearing can be knocked out without damaging it and can be used again.

Ok seems like a lot of work to save a bearing...

Takes about 10 mins, I thanked myself for doing it in my engine last time when I fitted the pigging bearing with the seal towards chain side ...

I have a Spanish Winter model S2 and mine is definitely not like this but don't be worried it will not affect the bike in anyway.
Thing to remember is......... You still want heat to force out the bearing and replace the new one. Don't just put a punch on the outer flanges of the bearing and try to knock it out as you could damage and crack the casing - heat is DEFINATELY required.

I have seen lots of Spanish engines but never seen this modification. It will be an owner modification and is not something that is specific to Spanish TV's. Cheers Perry.

Thanks chaps - it's been done very well so whoever did it had access to a decent workshop.

People I know have done this to SI cases to improve oil flow / lubrication of the bearing, which makes sense on a SI as it does not accept an oil thrower washer/assembly. On a later casing....?

+1 has to be owner/ shop/ mechanic specific.
Any pics of the scooter, is it a winter TV or an earlier one?

It is a Winter model TV with matching numbers.
It's currently stripped having just come back from acid dipping - the previous owner had, for reasons unknown, had all the steel powder coated - poorly at that.
