problem changing a PWK for a Jetex

Postby parky » Tue Mar 24, 2015 8:48 am

I have taken the 24mm PWK carb off my TV series 3 which has a 200cc engine and was hoping to replace it with a 22mmJetex/Dellorto. However after fitting a 200/22mm manifold I find the carb is obstructed by the silent block and the only way it will fit is if it sits at a very severe angle. Has anyone else had a similar problem and does anyone know any way of overcoming the problem? The carb would need to be moved about 6mm to the left in order to fit upright. I am wondering if all manifolds are exactly the same or does someone make one which will be a fraction longer in order to push the carb a bit away from the silent block. If I cannot come up with a solution what implications would there be if the carb did sit at an angle, would it make any difference to performance? I would appreciate any help or advice as this is beginning to drive me mad. Thanks

If it's only 6mm why not try slotting both mounting holes enabling you to twist the manifold away from the engine mount. You may have to rematch the manifold to the port but with a Dremmel type tool this is an easy job. Just be careful that you have a perfect seal when done to prevent an air leak. I've done this on kitted engines that put the carb too near the mount.

I'm a little surprised you managed to get the sh carb on the same manifold you had the PWK on in the first place.

The standard manifold does tend to come out at quite a shallow angle. Does yours have more of a 'sit up' 90 degree turn to it?

there was a 22mm inlet manifold on ebay last week which looked to be about 20-30mm longer than a standard inlet . I was going to buy one but missed the bidding. Not sure if it will help with your clearance problem but Might be worth a look
