Mikuni fit issues on an Avanti

Postby MickYork » Wed Apr 01, 2015 7:31 am

Just fitted a Mikuni TMX 35 on my Avanti. When I've fitted the petrol tank (12L bolt on type with cut-out) the top of the carb misses the cut-out and catches the tank. The carb' also stops the petrol lever from connecting to the tap arm (tried various positions). To get it running the carb' is now at an angle to miss the tank. Runs ok but this will lower the volume of the bowl which doesn't look the biggest in the world.

It appears that the slim-style of the Mikuni is keeping the carb' too close to the manifold (AF type). A longer manifold or rubber would probably solve the problem but are these available ?

Anyone else had this problem and any ideas to make it fit.

Surely it's more an issue with the tank? ( the position of the cutout and tap ) rather than the kit And carb?

I was using the MB manifold, currently out of stock.
This was on a Rapido 250.

Fuel tap rod was routed in front of the carb,
I could also use breath sweet filter, vertically mounted under the panels.
Tank was a 12L with cutout (standard type look)

Found another pic, clearance was very good.

Ignore the Agusto and early DC conversion with a capacitor spaghetti junction,I was only testing.

I had a similar problem recently ( albeit on a GT Kit ) but a combination of moving the tank over by a couple of mm , jacking it up up a couple of mm and a slightly longer carb rubber sorted it

I believe Dave Brailsford calls it " the aggregation of marginal gains " :D

Have you tried a UJ for the tap issue - available from most model shops

Thanks D. in fact it's the carb and filter I bought off you a while ago. I think the fact it's a bolt on tank is causing one problem, basically there's no movement on it what-so-ever. Regards the fuel tap, I suspect the MB manifold may be shorter than mine, but i'll try it across the front.

Thanks for replies keep them coming......
