sx gearbox endplate

hi can anyone tell me if it's possible that a 1968 sx 200 would have originally had a gp style endplate fitted when it was built?

Yes, I see no reason why not as many of the GP changes actually started on later SX models. Examples are cranks that use piston shims, side casings modified for the stronger kickstart shaft, similar later Ducati flywheels (boss for SX crank but the body is much the same as GP), then the later body changes to clip on panels, bolt-in buffers, silver running gear, etc.

Unless there is specific date information for component change (which may/may not be accurate) then I'd have thought late end plate was quite likely.

Thanks Adam, I have stripped the engine down and found the gp end plate and I wasn't sure whether it was original or if someone had replaced it. I was just wondering whether I should convert it back to get a longer kick start stroke or leave it as is because I think I have read before that each endplate is individually matched to the gearbox. I don't know if this is true or not?

This is supposedly true for Indian casings and certainly the endplate and casing are marked with a matching number if you get new SIL ones. I'm not sure the Indians would have done this any differently from the Italians but you never now...

I've never seen a problem swapping Italian endplates in Italian casings, that doesn't mean it might not happen...
