BGM Stator Increasing slot size

Postby Dibs/SFSC » Tue Apr 14, 2015 10:42 am

Having a bit of bother achieving the required advance on timing to suit the Mtech unit fitted, I have had to increase the slots to almost their limit to get the required advance of around 15 deg BTDC to achieve 18/19 (ish) at mid rev range when strobing, using an A/F electronic flywhweel (80`s version).
Anyone else had this issue?

Chers

Yes often! I believe the new updated version of BGM's have taken this into account and have longer/larger slots.

Oki dokey cheers, guess I will live with it and make some stepped washers as the bolts are right on the limit regarding edge distance

This is common with most types of stators and is certainly the case when used with the Agusto units, which I've always had to extend the slots on, with one of them being carefully cut through to allow enough rotation and a suitable washer fitted to hold the stator firmly in place. This is not a design fault of the stators it is just that we then choose to bolt on advance/retard units (noting that some stators have limited rotation even when running static timing).

Thanks Adam, yes quite understandable regarding the standard parts and our obsession with faffing and fitting advance units etc.

Cheers donnie,
I recall my previous A/F stator being slap bang in the middle of the slots when we used to set timing to normal static in byegone days and the BGM had to be set well advanced to achieve the same static position when I bought it.

Lets face it it would be no fun if everything just fitted without the odd fettle or two!
