Need help with a tuning kit, how do you tune your scooter, which kit should I choose, and all general tuning and modifcations questions are for in here.

tornado trev is doing the coast to coast this weekend and has some concerns over his jetting . as he is from darn sarf and there are no hills he thought i was bullshitting about re jetting for the high alltitudes that he will encounter , will he need to up or down jet ?? over the pass ?? :lol:

In Switzerland last year the altitude played havoc with our bikes / jetting. The altitudes this weekend are nowhere near as high but it will depend on the tune on his bike. Simply put the higher you go the less air . The mix will be richer and down jetting will stop it being boggy. Better that way than too lean when it's more likely to seize. The bike I'm using standard so I'm leaving it alone

My Avanti was one of those that struggled up the mountain to Davos although I discovered a week after return that most of the problem was down to a very slack throttle cable :oops: I did the Hardknott Pass on the same bike a couple of years ago and would say that you really don't need to down jet for it.

i believe the tune on trev's scooter goes something like this .. any old iron.. any old iron.. any any old iron :lol:

My advice to anyone doing the Hardnott for the first time would be to treat it with respect. I got over it without too much drama the first time I did it with a Mk1 Muggy 186 but the last time on the Avanti I was caught out slightly on the very first incline and was in 2nd gear rather than first before I reaIised. In the time it took to drop down a gear the scooter had virtually stopped moving due to the steepness of the incline and stalled :oops: I grabbed the front brake and jumped off but the front wheel just slid backwards on the tarmac and if it hadn't been for the timely intervention of Captain Pugwash and his friend I wouldn't have been able to keep it upright :oops: I was only 25 yards up the hill fff. We wheeled it back down, I regained my breath, restarted the engine, selected first and went at it again and got to the top without any bother other than being slowed down by a car near the top. Do not even think about stopping on the way up, wait a few minutes after any vehicles in front to give you some head room and be prepared to pass cars coming the other way with minimal clearance....don't forget to stop at the top to admire the view 8-) Going down is easy by comparison, it isn't quite as steep although there are a lot of tight turns. I coped easily with a drum brake the first time and a ScootRs disc the second time 8-)

well Si, @ least he attempted it 8-) got furthest travelled up to Saltburn too 8-) not bad for a shandy drinker........ :o missed you there :lol:
