VHSH... what is it?!

Postby Adam_Winstone » Wed Apr 15, 2015 2:00 pm

All,

Last night I stripped down a VHSH 30 to fit to a motor and a tiny little brass part (small solid cylinder about 3mm long) and tiny fitted spring fell out of it. Any ideas as to what it is and where it goes?

Ta

Adam

I've got one at home that I've changed jets on before and don't recall anything like that. I'll have another look later if I get a chance and report back.

Is it off the threaded bit what screws into the top of the slide that the cable goes through ? doesnt that have a spring underneath (sits on top of the Needle )

It does look like that sort of thing but this (body) is only 5mm long at most, way too small for choke use.

The exploded parts diagram and Eurocarb parts list don't seem to show it.

I'll need to have a really close examination of the carb again to see if I can identify it or where it should go, what it should do. The good news is that the carb seems to work without it!

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam et cetera.

Look again @ the pdf parts diagram (VHSH Slide - BS) & I believe you'll see it.

It's a sprung plunger to load the needle on it's side, in the direction of the back of the carb.

So, you should refit it, ideally.

I hope that helps.

Kind Regards

Hello again.

Sorry if I've caused confusion, but I should have said that what you see in the pdf is the blanking plug that does the job of retaining the spring & plunger.

I've checked by grabbing one of my carbs, took the slide then needle out & you can see the plunger poking in.

Hmmmm, just when I thought we had it! Unlike a number of my VHSA and VHSB slides, neither of my VHSH slides has the drilling in the slide to take a spring + blank, however, I'm convinced that this is exactly what these parts are, thinking that this is likely to have fallen out of a different carb and this is where the confusion has stemmed from

Thanks for all of the feedback and food for thought.
