Omni directional tyre options

I need to replace both my Schwable Raceman tyres after one blistered on the way back from the C2C.

I need a similar tyre (good in both wet and dry) but preferably ones that are not uni-directional. What options are there?

Most race type tyres are unidirectional.

Even block type stuff like the SM100 (which I quite like on the pig) has a rotation arrow on it though I'm damned if I can see why.

Why do you need them to be omnidirectional?

My rear wheel fits in the usual way, but my home-brew disc brake needs the tyre fitted from the RHS. I use SIP tubeless rims, and I have to be so specifics about ensuring the tyres go on the correct way round (for my application). It also means that I can't swap the tyres from front to back. Finally, when my Schwable went on the way back from the C2C, I couldn't flag down another scooter and beg a spare, because it would most likely have been the wrong rotation for my front. If I had omni directional tyres, I could have taken the back tyre on the front, and the borrowed wheel on the rear.

Dunlop 'scootsmart'. Bought one for spare wheel because of the directional issue so I can use it for front or back wheel in the event. Supposed to be good tyres I'm told.

Thinking of trying the scootsmarts myself to see what there like and if they fit front and back without having to be rotated then that's a bonus

No worries Ross. I was only concerned that some people might lose the will to live whilst reading my response.

I've opted for the Dunlop Scootsmart tyres. It was proving very difficult to find out whether they're were omni directional or uni directional, so I gave up and ordered some. I'll find out which way they roll when they arrive later in the week.

What about Michelin S83s.....correct me if I'm wrong but I don't recall any direction arrows on them.

Some tyres are uni directional. Some tyres fit one way if used on the front and the other if used on the rear. Markings on the side wall will tell. Don't fit other than directed as it's an MOT failure. Even if the 'block' looks even it doesn't mean the inner carcass is wound or layered the same.

Yes, but it is an S83. It is a very old design, and now looks like a wet weather tyre.

The michelin city grip winter tyres fit one way on the front and the other way round on the back.
Might be what you want.

Looking at the pattern I'd agree they look like they could be one way, though if you zoom some of the pics, you can make out arrows in either direction, I think they might be opposite front and back, which I just don't get either...

Yeah, I gave up worrying about the direction and got on with ordering the scootsmarts.

I have now heard that the supplier is out of stock, so I'm having to start all over again. Arrrgh.

I'm now looking at the Conitnetal Twist tyre. Interestingly, the SIP website says this:

Important information concerning the running direction:

After extensive testing, CONTI changed the running direction of some tyres. Especially scooters with a high center of gravity showed an increased wear of the front tyre. So don't be irritated if the running direction of new CONTI tyres differs from the present one.

Which does beg the question as to why have a directional arrow on, if the manufacturer can just reverse the direction of the arrow to reduce wear?
