strange electrical gremlin

Typical isn't it? you cure one problem and then you get another. I've just swapped a set of forks over on my 6V DC SX150, re-fitted the bolt on dampers and thought I'd give her a bit of a blast. She started after several kicks but then proceeded to tick over quite high for a couple of minutes then cut out 'ah ha I thought- it does that and normally starts again with no problems' but alas no. pulled the plug out and cleared the flood I caused by trying to restart it and again no joy, removed the plug and no spark, different plug same result. Got the bike back in the front room (yep that's where I keep it ) took off the headset to see if I had disturbed anything when I was replacing the forks but all seems good. Traced the wiring back down the frame, checked the earths to the frame, rectifier/regulator, and other possible causes- still no joy, I didn't have a spare HT cap to hand but just removed it and tried the bare wire against the frame and still nothing any ideas? Oh it doesn't normally tick over quite so high as it did, checked to see if the hose/carb/manifold were a cause but once again- all seemed ok, don't think it would be related

No spark would suggest green wire problem (after changing forks) and have you disturbed the throttle cable? I suspect you've probably looked already at these.

yep I checked all the wiring in the headset and it all seems ok, really strange, the fact that it was running then refused to restart must mean its something silly, thanks for the reply. Paul

Try this
Disconnect the ignition/ kill switch circuit from the sparking circuit by removing the green wire that goes upto the head set
If it still doesn't give a spark the fault it's not in the headset.
You won't be able to kill the motor in the normal way with the ignition/kill switch disconnected.

I would have a very careful look at the clamp bolt, I noticed the other day that I'd trapped a wire under mine when I had the forks out a while back. It was a feed to my lights which had been working but suddenly stopped, presumably when the insulation finally gave out

I've spent the last couple of hours going over earths and such like, thought I'd take your advice and check the clamp, loosened off all the cables and removed the headset from the forks to check that nothing was caught when I put the new forks in, carefully put it all together, cleaned up the connections and ignition switch and low and behold - it sparks! just bolted it all back together but bit too late for a test ride. Must of been a combination of a trapped loom and or dirty switch and bullets connectors, cheers for the replies Paul
