Winter Model Rustoration

Postby Fordy » Mon May 25, 2015 11:11 am

Picked this up recently and thought I would share my progress. I decided on keeping the patina, but try and tidy it up a bit.

Heres how I bought it:

Started the stripdown:

Engine out, and unseized!

Stripped the Forks, I quite like the patina on the mudguard.

Time to get cleaning!

So I was looking at various products in order to clean up some of the surface rust and I came across a product called metal rescue:

Heres the link I found:

Anyway I bought some off the UK Dealer just to try and it works pretty well. I tested it on some of the smaller parts and they came up quite well:

I left this in the bath for a few days and it ended up turning some of the bare metal bits black, but I quite like the look. I applied ACF50 after soaking which should keep the rust at bay.

I also dipped the frame in to try and clear some of the slightly heavier rust while trying to keep the original paint. I found the more parts I dipped the liquid turned a black colour, but it still works well.

To tackle the larger items i bought a cheap submersible aquarium pump off ebay, attached a length of hose and drilled holes in it to make an anti rust shower.

Seems to be working so far but I will update this as I go along.
