PHBH 30mm & RT225

Postby foremanbob » Sat Jun 21, 2014 9:50 pm

Trying to setup a PHBH 30 on an RT225 EGT fitted so I can tell what it's doing. Thumb choke to easily do the choke test.

Running open mouthed, JL3 curly exhaust.

70 Choke
55 Pilot
40 Slide
X7 Needle clip at 3 (to richen up 1/4 throttle)
AV264 Atomiser
Started with 122 main

Runs clean all the way through; pulling well. Past 3/4 throttle it splutters out.

Changed down methodically to 120,118,115,112, and now 110.... same symptoms on the main jet with every combination.

Guess theres something up with the carb... any thoughts?

What float valve are you running? Minimum should be 300. Mine did exactly the same. Now running 50 pilot, 130 main, x13 clip, 40 slide, open carb, av266 atomiser, sweet as.

Hi Bob. I have a new large float valve that I got from JB Tuning for that model. Pm if required.

No markings on the float needle (red tipped) is that the standard one then?

edit.......

just realised the brass insert in the carb is changeable and marked as 200....

not tell you that i bought this "setup" for my kit....

every day is a school day.... always used pwk's before this......

Bob, I am 99% sure that will cure it! it's the standard size they put in it. If you continue to use dellorto's use EuroCarb in Pangbourne, they will swap any component factory fitted for what you want and won't charge you any extra! Simon

Got a loan of a larger float valve ---- upped to a 300 from a 200.

Symptoms very similar.... took a video to explain it better.... pretty much OK till it goes beyond 3/4 throttle then ........

Have you thought that it could be not enough fuel at 3/4 throttle rather than too much, symptoms would be similar. Try going higher on main jet, say 125, just to disprove the theory.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.....

Changed back to the BGM carb and have exactly the same issue...

So its an ignition issue... changed out CDI, removed Kytronik, static timing back to 17btdc.

Only things left are BGM Flywheel and Stator to eliminate... Thats for tomorrow night though....

The winner was.... The BGM Stator.... Guess the pickup is gubbed....

Looking back on it not i've had this issue for a while, and thats the reason that I was trying the Dellorto because I could dial in the PWK with this kit.

Thanks for suggestions
