200 Engine Rebuild

Postby Madstadblues » Tue Jun 09, 2015 10:29 am

I plan to rebuild a Lambretta 200 engine to go back in a standard bike (6v etc). Although everything is standard on the bike I guess there are some sensible upgrades to make to the engine internals as we are now 50 years on from the original design. Aside from bearings are there any views on which parts to upgrade ? I want to keep the carb standard 20mm but wouldn't mind having the standard barrel matched / polished / ported. Are there any 60's tuning techniques that don't involve a trick exhaust. Thanks MSB

Loads of tunning guys can give you a mild tune m8
I'm Guessing the carb is a 22mm dellorto? These can be reamed out to 24mm
Having 6v lights? Always where terrible m8

Others will add more... just a few ideas that's came to mind? :-)

Enjoy

if you can get hold of the Lambretta home workshop book edition 4 or 5 theres some basic porting tips but I think the best upgrade to any engine is 12v electronic also a clubman exhaust will help performance

Viton seals.
Nylon chain guides.
Thin clutch plates so that you can use five plates and more clearance = feather light lever.

Don't know how standard you want but the above are 'hidden'.

It depends on how fat your wallet is really as you can uprate / overkill on virtually every engine component, layshaft, clutch, chains, chain tensioners. Some argue that original is best, others will say these are 50 year old parts with 50 years of engine stresses under their belt.
