Sidepanal badges

Postby Afandy » Tue Jun 09, 2015 9:38 am

I've got a spare set of panels and want to refit the original SX 200 flashes .....I had to drill them off but the badges are are still perfect ...can I just drill a small hole in them and put a self tapper in or do I need to tap a thread....a thread tapper is something I don't have .... Any advice please?

I drilled the badges and Araldited in some steel shanks (from pop rivets) then used the shanks as the Araldited points on the back of the panels.
I didn't have much meat as I had to do it on the Lambretta badges and rear flashes from a LIS panel.
So far Ive had one failure from 4 and that was down to not drilling deep enough, re-drilled and so far it's held.
I would have drilled/tapped and put in a stud but there wasn't enough metal to work with.
Good luck

I drilled small holes where the pins were and glued in small tapped dowels. They've held strong now for 8 years at least.

I have some very small self tappers and have used them on several badges. They are only about 6 mm long and are often found on cheap Chinese plastic things like the tiny screw that holds the battery closed. Drill a tiny hole about 1 mm and drive the screw in I did my LI and Lambretta badges and my series 1 side panel trims. You can take them off again so that's a plus
