Wassel and SIP speedo

I'm just wiring up a rebuild with a Wassel conversion with a SIP speedo and need an AC pulse for the Rev counter. Will it be ok to join a feed from the stator/ Wassel connection in a GP junction box as surely the stator kicks out too much power? Thanks

I'm pretty sure that Eden over on the Scooterotica site connected his to one of the yellows from the stator and it worked ok. It would be worth your while logging on over there and asking him.

Yes I connected to one of the yellows but only run the sip wired that way if the wassel is connected up too. eg don't try it with the wassel disconnected.

been like that for a few years and ive been using that scooter this year wired that way still and its still working fine


if you see me out and about and im on my Winter model come say hello and ill show you how I wired it up as the sip is on that scooter.

Thanks for the info. I've joined 3 connectors in a GP junction box to take a stator yellow, Wassel yellow and a loom feed to the speedo. One other thing is what size fuse should I fit for a 4 amp battery?

I'm using a 7.5 amp fuse with a 4 amp battery

why in the instruction for the SIP speedo on page 22 (measuring unit setting) if you choose to use the sensor (ext) it tells you in NOTE please check step from instruction sheet, what instruction sheet, whats wrong with putting the instruction in the booklet.

So I now have everything up n running apart from no rev counter . I have a feed from a stator yellow that's also connected to the Wassel yellow then connected to the speedo brown, but there's no movement on the needle. What setting do I need for the rev input ?

That's how mine is Wack and mine just worked on whatever the default setting is out of the box. Not had to change it but incidentally realised today that if I don't have the lights on ( I always tend to ride with them on anyway) then the Rev counter reads between 1-2000 rpm lower than with the lights on. How about that?

As to why you have no revs, I would test using a multimeter on AC setting to see if you have a voltage going into the power box.

That's a bit bizarre, do you have a battery fitted?

I've pulled the 2 yellows from the stator to measure AC voltage on each wire and at tick over my digimeter is showing 2.5 - 4.5v rising when revved but if I connect a speedo test bulb it will not light plus when engine running the feed to the speedo Rev counter brown wire has voltage. There are no bad contacts etc in headset . This has me stumped

Are you testing the bulb across the 2 yellows? The supply voltage from the stator is fed by the 2 yellows.
The speedo takes a reference voltage from one of the yellows to give a RPM reading. Don't try to test the yellows down to earth. Ideally test across the 2 yellows with them connected to the Wassel. You should get around 14 VAC if I remember right (somebody correct me if I'm wrong!)

Maybe that's why it wouldn't light the bulb then. I'll try it tomorrow and see then although I have a spur off the loom lighting feed that shows 13+v with engine running so looks like the Wassel is doing its job.

Now sorted, the Rev counter didn't work because of a poor terminal in the junction box. Doh

you have to connect the power and earth for the sip too Spud lol

Everything else works on the speedo, its just the rev counter that doesn't!
