I've got an oil leak from the chaincase, so intend to replace the gasket. I haven't done this for years (I usually get someone more mechanically minded to work on my scoot) but thought I'd give it a go.
I know the theory, but practically are there any pitfalls to watch out for? I've seen photos on the net where the kickstart has been removed from the casing and then mole grips attached to the shaft prior to replacement. Is this necessary, or will my casing just push back on?
It's an Li 150 Special casing.

Just try it a couple of times without the new gasket.......... Dry run ;)

Watch out for the clutch thimble, although they usually stay put through oil retention.

Kick start lever may need to be pressed down at 'final docking' stage but you'll be part engaged by then, if you have studs in your crankcase. If not, you can always put a few (M6) in to help alignment then remove. Studs are also good for holding the gasket in place whilst the cover is fitted. And they’re not cheap!

If it's not too late, the thicker gaskets such as those sold by CamLam are worth having. On a race bike, they’ll tolerate dismantling again & again.
