Indicator updates and new problem :-(

Postby Donnie » Mon Aug 31, 2015 5:38 pm

right, as an update, managed to finally source some festoon leds, of course they are either too long or too short so needed extra modification to ensure they fit.
Lots and lots brighter so thanks to all for bearing with me and being a sounding board.

Now however I discover that there seems to still be some cross feed on the indicators, ie if you look at the video (excuse the iphone quality) you will notice that the "off" indicator slightly lights up, as does the warning light on top :-/

No I already have diodes fitted so there was no cross feed when the traditional festoons where in but now im wondering if i need a higher rated diode to stop the same?

Looks like Ill be taping up the indicators for tomorrows mot :-(

There's definitely some form of back feed going on.
I've had problems like this when retro fitting LED lamps in houses. Because the slightest voltage can make the LED lamp light up dim, some 2 way switches are allowing a very small voltage to pass and make the lamp glow slightly. It's caused by capacitance.
Is the warning light LED?
You may be able to stop it by fitting a standard bulb in the warning lamp rather than an LED.
A suitable sized capacitor across the LEDs may well help.
There's a bit info here that may help.

All diodes have a forward AND reverse bias, the reverse bias is usually negligible, what type have you got fitted? maybe select some with less reverse bias? Not sure what I have in mine, IN4??? got them from Maplin anyway.
